End-of-month means re-typing payroll into Xero — gross, taxes, social security — line by line to the PT SNC chart of accounts. One typo and reconciliation slips.
The Real-World Context
Accountants rebuild the same journal every month: debit gross, credit withholding, credit Social Security, per employee. For 20 staff, that’s 60+ lines by hand.
The Test Scenario
We used the same Casa Verde May run (4 workers, €10–13/h, split shifts, allowances) that already produced a locked run and SEPA pain.001. We then exported Xero Manual Journals CSV with PT SNC mapping enabled.
How It Works (The Mechanics)
- Map once — set PT SNC accounts (e.g.,
632Remunerações,242Retenções,245Segurança Social) in Chegatta per payroll template. - Export CSV — Manual Journals CSV generates one journal per pay period, debit/credit balanced, per employee and per site.
- Import to Xero — upload to Xero → Accounting → Manual Journals; we verified the import on a live Xero org (
xero-payroll-integration-live.mdx), posted and balanced.
The Results / What We Verified
- CSV balanced, all 4 workers, allowances as separate lines. Pass.
- PT SNC mapping applied as configured. Pass.
- Import to Xero posted, no re-typing. Pass.
Honest caveat: The CSV automates the entry, it doesn’t replace your accountant’s sign-off. Mapping must be reviewed once per client — especially if you use custom SNC sub-accounts.
